JOIN THE HUNT with Paranormal Books & Curiosities! Participate in a private, four-hour paranormal investigation of the infamous Eastern State Penitentiary. Space is extremely limited and advance reservations are required.
Opened in 1829 as part of a controversial movement to change the behavior of inmates through "confinement in solitude with labor," Eastern State Penitentiary quickly became one of the most infamous prisons in the country. Some of America's most notorious criminals were held in the Penitentiary's vaulted, sky-lit cells, including bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone.
After 142 years of consecutive use, Eastern State Penitentiary was completely abandoned in 1971, and now stands a lost monument of crumbling cellblocks and guard towers. However, some of the inmates linger still within it’s towering confines. And a few of the guards have yet to desert their posts.
Hundreds of visitors each year report ghostly apparitions while touring the expansive grounds and labyrinthine buildings. Those brave enough to roam the cells at night have claimed to document real and ongoing paranormal activity inside the 179-year old prison unto this day.
Eastern State Penitentiary has been featured on The Travel Channel’s Most Haunted Live, Fox’s World’s Scariest Places, TLC’s America’s Ghost Hunters, and MTV’s FEAR. Footage captured on the second tier of cellblock Twelve by TAPS during filming of The Sci-Fi Channel’s popular Ghost Hunters is perhaps the most shocking yet controversial evidence in the history of Eastern State.
